Former C.Since… artists Dymez-a-Duzin and Elbee Thrie have been very busy since our last interviews. Dymez released his third mixtape “20=x” hosted by producer Plain Pat. Elbee Thrie is also working on a tape, meanwhile producing more “grownflow” instrumentals. Collectively, their band, Phony Ppl, have been doing big things this summer from opening shows for artists like Theophilus London and heading a collection of shows in the Brooklyn area. The eight-man band is currently working on an album and will be performing at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival this summer. Stay attentive!

A Tribe Called Quest

Next, we have a Tribe Called Quest. For all the non-Hip Hop heads, this quartet is a 90’s hip-hop band that brought clever storytelling, inventive instrumentation, and conscious rhyme back to the ganster-rap injected industry of the time. Now, The Tribe is re-introducing themselves to the world, with the documentary “Beats, Rhymes, and Life: Travels of a Tribe Called Quest”. Through its in-depth interviews with band members, Phife Dawg, Q-tip, Ali Shaheem, and Jarobi; the film unveils The Tribes’ internal conflicts which eventually led to the group’s much publicized disbandment in 1998. The documentary also casts interviews with current hip-hop legends -such as Pharrell, Common, and the Beastie Boys- whose music was greatly influenced by The Tribe. Beats, Rhymes, and Life debuted at the Sundance Film Festival Friday, July 8th and its director, Michael Rapapport, has received rave reviews for the film and won an L.A. Film Festival Award. “Can I Kick it? Yes you can.”

Watch the Throne

Finally, be sure to watch Kanye West and Jay-z’s up-and-coming album “Watch the Throne”. They have yet to release any track titles, but we can all recall Jay and Ye’s track-record for dope singles.

Besides the album title, the only other release from the LP  has been the album cover, created by designer Riccardo Tisci. Obviously, the duo are trying their best to safeguard this record, especially with the drama that ensued with Kanye’s 2010 album, My Dark-Twisted Fantasy.
